Sponsorship / Partners in Research

MSRA has a range of research projects, Scholarships and Fellowships all of which require financial support. As acknowledgement, there are various degrees of ownership and naming rights associated with each program which would be able to support your Corporate and Social Responsibility program.

In 2009 MSRA has funded eleven new research projects, with a total of over 40 MSRA funded research projects now underway in Australia for 2009. These projects require funding of over $2 million p.a. Often project funding is able to be matched by government or other sources. Click here to view details of the projects and people MSRA fund.

MSRA works with numerous Foundations and Associations who sponsor one or several research projects, Scholarships or Fellowships, such as the Trish MS Research Foundation, Macquarie Group Foundation, the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) and Wilson HTM Foundation . All of these partners support and share MSRA’s goal of accelerating research into the cause and cure for MS.

The Trish MS Research Foundation Trish MS Research Foundation

The Trish MS Research Foundation was founded in the memory of Trish Langsford who bravely battled MS. She was diagnosed at twenty three, at the prime of her life. The progression of MS left her lying in a nursing home bed completely paralysed, unable to eat, speak or communicate with her loved ones. She sadly passed away peacefully on 16 March 2002.

The people who watched Trish suffer from MS are determined to save others from the same tragic consequences. A team of volunteers banded together, and with the support of an eminent Scientific Research Committee, formed the Trish Multiple Sclerosis Research Foundation. This Foundation’s ultimate goal is to find a cure for MS – a goal shared by MSRA.

The Trish MS Research Foundation in 2009 will again sponsor a Scholarship and a Fellowship

  • Trish Foundation/Betty Cuthbert Postdoctoral Fellowship
  • Trish MS Research Foundation Scholarships

Macquarie Group Foundation                                                                               Macquarie Group Foundation

The Macquarie Group’s Community Foundation has been a Founding Corporate Partner with MSRA since 2004. Their continued ongoing support has helped MSRA develop its fundraising, facilitate important conferences (for our specific research streams and our Research Management Council) as well as sponsor several Research Fellowships and Scholarships.

In 2008 a Macquarie Group Foundation bi-lateral MS Research Exchange Award has been launched for a Fellowship exchange between Australia and the UK, with Dr Julia Morahan being awarded this Fellowship.

Association of Financial Advisers Association of Financial Advisers

The Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) is a professional organisation that has been serving the financial and insurance advisory industry for over 60 years. Its aim is to provide members with a robust united voice, continually improving practices, with a focus firmly on the dynamic future of the financial advising industry.

Since 2006 the partnership with the AFA has seen more than $200,000 raised. This has been achieved through outstanding member events held throughout Australia.

The AFA’s initial scholarship was awarded to Scott Kolbe at the Howard Florey Institute, Melbourne University in 2007. His work aims to identify biological markers for MS in optic neuritis.

In 2008, through the generosity of the AFA members, a MSRA Brain Bank Fellowship was established, with Teresa Wong being awarded this position.
