Teams – Employer Support

Chamber of Commerce and Industry - Proud supporters of the MS Society

Get your employer involved
Talk to your employer about how they can assist you in promoting and sponsoring your company team. It is a great way to positively promote your company and show that your employer supports its employees and worthwhile causes.

Set yourself a goal!
Before talking to your employer, set a team fundraising goal. This way you’ll appear better organised and more driven, inspiring them to support an employee who is motivated and committed to achieving a worthwhile target!

“What should I say when approaching my employer to gain support?”

  • It is a great team building exercise out of the office.
  • Anyone from the company can enter as long as each team of four people has a unique name.
  • You may want to extend the invitation to clients and suppliers and challenge them to create their own team of four climbers.
  • Those that don’t participate can sponsor a team or an individual and be a part of
    achieving the overall fundraising goal.
  • Challenge your competitors to get involved.
  • Great chance to promote your company as a supporter of a good cause.
  • Healthy and fit employees = a happier workforce.
  • You can add your company logo onto your team’s page to promote their involvement.

“How can my employer show their support?”

  • Subsidise the cost or pay the full entry fee for the individuals participating in a team.
  • Purchase the team an official ‘Step Up for MS’ T-shirt as a memento of the event.
  • Offer to match your fundraising efforts, dollar for dollar.
  • Sponsor the event.
  • Become a Corporate Supporter and donate direct to the MS Society of WA.

“How can I use my employer to help promote my team?”

  • Use the company intranet to sign up team members and request donations. Put the link to the team webpage on the intranet and communicate your goal.
  • Add your team profile to your staff email, newsletter, calendar, circular etc.
  • Advertise your team on the official Step Up for MS posters (we can supply) and place them on your staff notice boards.
  • Send out an insert with all pay slips advertising your team’s fundraising and time goals and promote your employers involvement.

Fundraising for your team.

Set-up your team profile online, including photos of your team members and identify your
fundraising targets. Then email everyone you know, asking for their support! Once people
realise your fundraising will support a worthy charity, they’re more likely to dig deep!
And, if that doesn’t work, try these ideas:

  • Be creative: Organise your own raffle - $10 a ticket and the winner gets a free day off work!

  • Be resourceful: Use the resources at your disposal to make it easier! Intranet, email, newsletters etc are great ways to reach a wide audience and communicate your team’s goal.

  • Get the team involved: Get the whole team involved in fundraising! Why not hold an internal company competition for the highest individual fundraiser?

  • Ask for management’s involvement: Those higher up in the company often have
connections and contacts that could contribute more funds to help you. Ask
management, the Board or your CEO to join the team and help you fundraise.

Become a Corporate Supporter!

Ask your company to get involved by making a $1000 donation to the MS Society and
becoming a Corporate Supporter. We’ll send them a personal thank you letter and they’ll
receive the following benefits:

  • A tax deductible receipt
  • Recognition of their donation on the Step Up for MS website
  • Invitation to include company specific promotional material in all participant race
    packs
  • Recognition at the Awards Presentation immediately following the event.
