MS Challenge - Ride through Mongolia

Frequently asked questions

Who can participate?
People of all ages and backgrounds who have a sense of adventure, are open to new experiences, are committed to their personal development and have a desire to help others.

What level of fitness is required?
The trips are designed to be a physical challenge. We recommend that you will need a moderate level of physical fitness to maximise the enjoyment of the challenge. Information and training tips will be forwarded to all participants. If you have any concerns about your physical condition, consult your doctor before you start your fitness program.

Who is the tour operator?
Raw Travel is one of the world’s most experienced providers of adventure travel. Raw has been operating trips to Asia since 1989 and has quickly established a reputation as one of the industry leaders for its innovative and responsible style of travel.

How much spending money do I need?
This varies considerably from person to person. You do not need a lot of money during the days of challenge activity. About $10 a day would be sufficient to buy your drinks in the evening after your ride. On your free days we would recommend about $50 a day upwards to cover any additional activities, souvenirs, food and drinks.

What happens if I can’t cycle or trek the full distance each day?
All we ask is that you do what you can, if for whatever reason you feel you can’t complete that days challenge, in most cases there will be a support vehicle following which you can utilise.

Can I bring my own bike?
We don’t recommend bringing your own bike unless you are really attached to it. The tour operator provides good quality 21-geared mountain bike with front suspension for you to use.

Can I extend my stay?
Yes, there will be options offered by Raw Travel to extend your stay at the end of the trip or take a trip elsewhere in your chosen country.

How is the trip funded?
These challenges are discounted trips. Raw Travel gives the charity a package price and the sponsorship level is set accordingly. Your registration fee is your personal contribution towards the cost of the Challenge. You need to explain to sponsors that you are making a personal contribution towards the trip costs and that a percentage of the money you raise will pay the balance of the costs. A minimum of 50-60% of your fundraising will go directly towards the MS Society’s work.

How will I be able to raise the sponsorship money?
The MS Society will be with you every step of the way, helping you achieve your fundraising target with advice and support. We will provide you with an official fundraising kit including raffle tickets, which will make receipting and banking of donations easy.

What happens if I can't raise the sponsorship money?
Tour costs are paid up front. You must follow the payment plan in the term and conditions outlined in the registration forms. In some cases if you have not raised the required amount in time, it may be possible for you to transfer to a later challenge.

Are donations tax deductible?
All donations of $2 and more are tax deductible. The conditions for a donation are that it must be made voluntarily and does not provide benefits to the donor.

For an amount to be a donation it is assumed at all times that the donor is not the same person as the participant. Entry to an event, buying of a product or money received from raffle tickets are not tax deductible.
