Connecting this World MS Day!

25 May 2020

With less than a week to go until World MS Day this Saturday 30 May, we wanted to share with you more about what we have planned, and how we can all connect with ourselves and each other!

When we looked at the new three-year World MS Day “ #MSConnections” campaign, we wanted practical ways to help the MS community connect and feel supported. Considering the current situation in the world, we felt virtual, interactive tools and online events could be helpful ways to help combat social isolation and loneliness.

"Limit news time each day to manage anxiety" - Emily
"Be kind to yourself and accept the changes"  - Lynne

We’re particularly thrilled to see lots of great self-care tips coming in on our new Connections Hub. As some of you will already know, the Connections Hub is an online platform for people with MS to share tips for self-care with the world, search for topics of interest or see tips from others.

"Breathe and absorb the beauty of nature" - Andrew
"Me time. Take time out of your day For You" - Janet

Comedy legend Tim Ferguson launched it for us last week (see his hilarious video here).  We’ve already received so many great contributions from people with MS, including tips from Paralympian Emily Petricola, UK podcaster and MS advocate Jessie Ace, and our very own MSA Board President and National Advocates!

"Allow those you love into your world" - Des
"Physio, physio, physio, chocolate…and physio" - Tim

This week and on World MS Day, you will also be able to connect with experts and others from the MS community, through an exciting Facebook Live and Webinar program, run by MS Australia and some of our state/territory members. You’ll be able to see our flyer below, and it is available as PDF in 3 different time zones:

AEST  (ACT, NSW, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria)

We will be running two Facebook Live events on the day; Dr Sally Shaw’s “Mental Health Tips”, and Dr Anneke van der Walt on “Brain Health and Self-care.” You will be able to ask questions and pick up tips from each other. The virtual events across the country include Tai Chi, Yoga, Mindfulness, and even a Zumba-inspired World MS Day Community Celebration!

Please visit the links below for more information on which events require registration ahead of time, and make sure you have the flyer for your local times. We suggest logging on 10 minutes prior, to ensure you are all set up.

Keep checking in with our Facebook Page for more exciting activities, and we hope you're able to make some fantastic #MSConnections this World MS Day!
