It was a monumental week for people living with MS with the announcement of the full rollout of NDIS in New South Wales (NSW) and Victoria. There are factsheets available with further information on the rollouts announced. Bear in mind though that if you live in any of the areas announced, you will receive an information pack in the post soon.
You may still be thinking how the NDIS may be of assistance or relevant to you which is why we’d like to draw your attention to the MS Checklist which has proved itself to be an invaluable tool for people living with MS in the existing NDIS trial areas.
As we know, no two cases of MS are the same and it can affect people in a myriad of ways. The Checklist is in place to help people identify how their MS impacts them on a day to day basis and assist them to pinpoint the type of support they’d like to have in place.
We’re keen for you to take some time to familiarise yourself with it so that you feel as prepared as possible for your planning conversation with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) Planner and are in a position to achieve the best possible outcome for yourself.
The checklist has recently been revised to include more in-depth questions about informal supports and social and community participation, and can help people living with MS who are over the age of 65 and need to prepare for changes to Aged Care services. It's open to everyone, whether or not you’re living in an NDIS trial site and it is there to help you prepare for the full scheme rollout from 2016.
