The multiple sclerosis (MS) community in Australia is supported by thousands of generous volunteers. Without these volunteers, organisations such as MS Australia and the State/territory MS organisations couldn’t fundraise, offer services and support, or advocate to improve the lives of people living with MS.
We rely on volunteers to help in many facets of our work. Volunteers assist with everything from community-based visiting programs, fundraising, shopping, reading, administration, community shops and social groups. Many of our volunteers are highly skilled and all bring great energy and enthusiasm. With the help of our volunteers, we strive to empower people with MS to talk about their MS experiences, better manage their symptoms and enhance their quality of life, health and wellbeing.
At MS Australia our own volunteer National Advocates play a key role in lobbying for systemic change toward the effective management of the condition and ultimately to prevent and defeat MS. Look in any of our MS organisations in Australia and you’ll find folks who volunteer in more formal roles such as MS Advisory Committee Members, MS Ambassadors and MS Angels. In addition, there are a number of senior, skilled and experienced professional people who volunteer as Board Directors, all generously giving their time, energy and skills to governing one or more of our family of MS organisations.
Many of our state organisations are celebrating National Volunteer Week with functions and events to say “thank you” to our volunteers. Their support is not only very practical, it also provides us with the inspiration and drive to advance the MS cause and meet the needs of the MS community that we serve.
Join us this week to celebrate the work of all our volunteers and if you know someone who is volunteering, please thank them on behalf of everyone at MS Australia!
