World MS Day brings the global MS community together on May 30 to share stories, raise awareness and campaign with everyone affected by multiple sclerosis (MS).
First initiated by the MS International Federation (MSIF) and its members in 2009, World MS Day is a day to celebrate global solidarity and hope for the future.
The World MS Day 2022 theme is ‘Connections’. The four-year global theme (2020 – 2023) aims to build community connection, self-connection and connections to quality care.
MS Australia is contributing to this significant international exploration of relationships, connections and the impacts of social isolation for people living with MS.
In Australia, our World MS Day 2022 focus is on Employment and MS including its link to community connection.
On May 30 we launch the findings of the MS Australia ‘Employment and Workplace Survey’ plus updated, online information guides for employers and employees.
The survey findings renew our advocacy efforts in this area in line with our goal to challenge stigma in the workplace. We want to start an important conversation and raise awareness about employment and MS including barriers, myths, opportunities and experiences – good and bad. We also want to spotlight employers doing good things such as workplace adjustments, considerations and other measures taken to support employees with MS.
Our state and territory MS Member Organisation offers specialist MS employment services, advice and support to people with MS and their employers. To find the service nearest you, please visit https://www.msaustralia.org.au/supports-and-services/
The MS Connections campaign challenges social barriers that leave people affected by MS feeling lonely and socially isolated.
The campaign tagline is ‘I Connect, We Connect’ and the campaign hashtag is #MSConnections.
World MS Day is an opportunity to advocate for better services, celebrate support networks and champion self-care.
The 2022 campaign video ‘Connect with World MS Day’ shows the power of the global MS community in action, taking inspiration from real World MS Day events. Share it with your network today.
To support World MS Day, MSIF have created a free MS Connections toolkit, to bring positive change in the lives of more than 2.8 million people around the world.
The MS Connections toolkit includes:
