Why I chose to leave a gift to MS in my Will

“When I came to Australia, I left behind a large family in Lima, Peru, but soon found a welcoming community in my new home. I saw many acts of generosity in the community and the ‘not for profit’ sector.

As my Greek friends would say, helping people is “Philotimo”! ‘Philo’ means friend and ‘timi’ means doing something honourable, something good. This word captures my upbringing, my values, and the legacy I would like to leave.

Like you, I am very proud that I can do my part to create a better world for those living with MS by leaving a gift in my Will to MS. I want to be part of the mission, even when I am no longer here. It’s my way of giving back.

I encourage you to think about leaving a gift in your Will to help find a cure and help those living with MS. Writing a Will to include MS is not a difficult thing to do, and it will give you a deep sense of satisfaction.

My legacy is contributing to a future where no person’s choices, freedom, or quality of life are reduced by MS,”

Many of our supporters choose to include a gift in their Will to MS Australia. It’s their way of making sure their values live on. It also helps change the world for Australians living with multiple sclerosis (MS).

A gift to MS Australia in your Will doesn’t have to be big to make a powerful, even transformative difference. Gifts in Wills have already funded significant advances in MS research. They’ve led to huge improvements in MS care and support. And those gifts have been left by people just like you.

In this article we answer some of the most common questions about writing a Will.

Why is it important to have a Will?

Creating a Will ensures your final wishes are respected and acted upon. It also helps your family and friends celebrate and recognise the impact you have had on them and the world.

Your Will provides clear instructions on how you would like your estate to be divided. But it’s much more than that. It’s an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy. By including a gift to MS Australia in your Will, you can keep changing lives long into the future.

What happens if I don’t have a Will?

If you pass away without leaving a Will you are what’s known as ‘intestate’. That means your estate is divided up by a set formula or the courts may need to look for evidence of what you ‘would have wanted’ if a dispute arises. This can create unnecessary distress for your loved ones.

If you make your final wishes clear in your Will, you can make your passing a little easier for your loved ones.

How complicated is the process of making a Will?

Writing a Will need not be difficult, time-consuming or expensive. You can start by contacting your solicitor, who will guide you through the process. Or you could start with an Online Will. This is an excellent place to start if you have a relatively simple estate.

MS Australia has partnered with top-rated Will writing platform, Gathered Here. As a generous supporter, you can create a FREE Will with unlimited, free lifetime updates.
