Summary

Despite substantial improvements in treatments that prevent relapses and lesion formation, people with MS are still unable to predict how their disease will progress and which level of disability they will face in the future.

This project aims to develop a computational model that predicts the progression of MS by using artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and clinical measures of MS symptoms from 153 people with MS. Dr Oun Al-iedani and his team will implement this to draw accurate and meaningful conclusions about MS and predict disease progression of each person with MS.

This project will allow Dr Al-iedani and his research team to determine which MRI methods are most useful for monitoring and predicting MS progression. They aim to develop a software predictive model to assist people with MS and their treating clinicians in making future decisions about their health. This could improve the overall treatment effectiveness and management of MS in the future.

This project will improve our understanding of MS and allow for establishing more personalised treatment and management plans.
