Normal appearing white matter or Normal appearing grey matter

Areas of the brain that appear normal under standard MRI conditions but look abnormal when pulsed with specific radiofrequencies (known as magnetisation transfer MRI). These areas can occur in white matter regions or grey matter regions. Why the normal appearing areas appear in the brain is unknown, but they can be used to help predict the course of the disease.
