The Senate’s Standing Committee on Community Affairs tabled its Report on an “Inquiry into the current barriers to patient access to medicinal cannabis in Australia” in the Senate on 25 March 2020.

With the help of the MS community, MS Australia and research partner organisation MS Research Australia made a submission to this inquiry and representatives gave evidence at the Inquiry’s public hearing.

The Report is a very interesting read. It has 20 recommendations designed to improved patient access to medicinal cannabis including changes to Australia’s regulatory framework, improved training of healthcare professionals and reducing the cost of medicinal cannabis products. It also contains plenty of references to multiple sclerosis.

A big “thank you” to everyone who shared with us their stories, concerns and issues about access to medicinal cannabis and to those who made their own submissions directly to the Inquiry.  Our submission was peppered with your helpful comments and really made a difference.
