It has been said that the very best medical research conferences occur when great science meets steadfast determination.

Great science and steadfast determination will be seen in abundance when the Australian MS community gathers in Brisbane next week for MSA’s 10th biennial Progress in MS Research conference under the themes of ‘Causes, Care, Cures’.

And this conference does bring the entire MS community together – not only our great, world-class Australian researchers and clinicians, but also the people at the centre of all we do – people living with MS, their families, friends and carers. Because people with MS are not subjects – they are partners in research and care.

Also, there will be supporters, donors and sponsors, without whom little of this research would be possible.

In particular, I acknowledge the amazing support for research provided by our deeply committed Member Organisations, MSWA, MS Plus and MS Queensland.

Also, there will be MS nurses and allied health professionals, so critical to achieving better outcomes and quality of life for all those affected by MS.

And it won’t be only Australians, as we welcome top clinicians and researchers from France and America whose presentations we eagerly anticipate.

Of course, conferences are not just talkfests and education opportunities. They provide a crucible to spark new ideas, collaborations and concepts.

MS Australia is completely committed to playing a leading role in the global push to improve the lives of all those living with MS, and to collaborate with other leading MS organisations so that we can travel faster and further down the pathways to cures.

This conference will help us get there.

If you are unable to attend in person, there is an opportunity to attend online by registering for an online pass here.
