Disease modifying therapies or DMTs are therapies that affect the course of the disease. They are not a cure for MS, but they can reduce how many relapses someone has and how serious they are.
In Australia we have access to 12 different DMTs for people with relapsing remitting MS, unfortunately, we only have limited options for the progressive forms of the disease. These medications are different to some of the medications that aim to improve the symptoms but don’t have any effect on the course of the disease.
Our MS in a Minute videos were created to provide fast and factual definitions of commonly used terms in MS.
